The 30-year-old Queenslander has put the disappointment of losing the vacant Ford-Tickford Racing seat to Steven Richards behind him, and is now concentrating on a rejuvenated Shell Series campaign for 2001.
With a brand new AU Falcon and increased financial support from principal sponsor Greenfield Mowers, McLean hopes to build on a trying year 2000 and make a serious impression on this year’s championship.
Artists’ impressions of the new-look Falcon have just been torn from the drawing board.
Gone is the canary yellow of the Greenfield V8 Falcon mark 1, and in its place a new predominantly white design with the yellow and red colours of the mower manufacturer slashed strikingly down both sides of the car.
Telecommunications company Fone Zone comes to the party for 2001, while Ford and Briggs and Stratton renew their support for the new season.
The Greenfield Mowers Falcon will be race-ready come the middle of February, although the team may opt to run last year’s car at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne if a buyer can’t be found.
