Cochrane: I won't move for anyone

2/1/2001 13:05 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Tony Cochrane is not a man to be bullied, as the American Le Mans organisation will soon discover.

A typically obstinate AVESCO Chairman is remaining resolute over a 2001 December clash of dates with the Adelaide Le Mans race, insisting his Shell Series finale at Sandown Raceway won’t be budging.

Cochrane told Adelaide’s Advertiser newspaper that Le Mans was not a threat.

"I know where the race fans will be. I know where the television will be. I know where the Motorsport media will be,” a dogged Cochrane declared.

"I am not moving the event for anyone. No way," he said.

Many V8 Supercar drivers may beg to differ however, as a scheduling clash would ensure their unavailability for Adelaide’s Sportscar showcase.

Le Mans organisers announced the 2001 Adelaide date on September 29; eight days before Tony Cochrane launched his 2001 schedule.

The dispute has been referred to CAMS for resolution.
