Ingall clears his name after appeal win
23/11/2000 2:03 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Perkins Engineering has tonight won an appeal against a CAMS decision to fine the team $10,000 following comments made by Russell Ingall over the Bathurst weekend.
Ingall was charged with bringing the sport into disrepute following his scathing remarks directed towards Bathurst’s slower cars and drivers at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
A special hearing to hear the Perkins appeal was held at CAMS' headquarters tonight. After 90-minutes of deliberation before a three-man panel, the appeal was upheld.
Perkins was understandably pleased with the outcome, but admitted his employee’s comments were inappropriate.
“They found in my favour, which I’m very pleased about, but I might add that I never will be pleased about the remarks Russell made,” Perkins told Channel Ten following the hearing.
“Russell was out of line, even though it wasn’t illegal, he was still out of line,” he said.
It is not known on what grounds the charges were thrown out.
Perkins will not have to pay the $10,000 fine, and will be reimbursed with the $5000 bill to hear the appeal.
