Greatest racing show on earth in 2001: AVESCO

20/11/2000 14:41 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - V8 governing body AVESCO has promised weekend-long Motorsport action unlike anything in the world in 2001, with the launch of next year’s V8 Supercar support card.

Spectators will be treated to more track time and increased variety in the revamped new season, according to AVESCO.

Formula Ford, Formula Holden, Formula 3 and the Porsche Cup will continue to play support to the V8 Supercar circus, as will PROCAR’s Production car classes. In all, ten categories of Motorsport will be seen at various V8 Supercar events.

AVESCO CEO, Wayne Cattach, made the announcement over the Bathurst weekend.

"The Shell Championship Series for V8 Supercars, Australia’s premier Motor Racing category, already guarantees more excitement on each day of racing than probably any other equivalent in the world,” Cattach boasted, “However, we’ve listened to the fans and promise to provide them with even better entertainment in 2001.”

"People wanted to see more of the V8s on Sunday and so we revamped the format to give them more track time. Other innovations will also ensure that there are even more intense battles for position at every race.”

“However, we also welcome the expansion of the support events, as this will give the fans incredible value for money and an unforgettable experience every time," he said.

The rapidly-growing PROCAR organisation (governing body of Production Car racing in Australia), will expand its schedule to include more showroom spectacles.

The five-class GT Production Car Championship will be divided into two categories – one for the high performance class A and B machines, and the other for the class C, D and E Touring Car entrants. An international field of exotic Sports Cars will return in the Nation’s Cup, also.

PROCAR’s newest innovation, the Ute Muster, will see a field of 20 Ford and Holden Utilities do battle across the country.

The PROCAR roadshow will travel to select rounds of the Shell Championship Series, Konica V8 Supercar Series, and compete at several PROCAR-run stand-alone events.

Said CAMS CEO Peter Hanson, "The calendar framework has been structured to create a multi-category ‘roadshow’ that provides the crowds with a feast of top class Motorsport entertainment.”

“It also takes into account the different tastes in each state, so that there are different combinations of categories around the country,” he said.
