Jet-setting Murphy to test Panoz OS
13/11/2000 23:45 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Greg Murphy will make a flying visit to the United States just hours after crossing the finish line at Bathurst this Sunday to partake in testing for next month’s Adelaide Le Mans event.
Murphy will join co-driver Mark Noske in a Florida-bound plane on Monday morning to participate in a two-day test at the Sebring circuit with the giant Panoz operation.
Murphy replaces former HRT team-mate Craig Lowndes in the prized Panoz mount after Lowndes was forced to withdraw following highly-publicised contractual problems with his employer, the Holden Racing Team.
"It is going to be great to get over there to try the car for the first time," an enthusiastic Murphy said.
"I certainly have a very exciting couple of weeks coming up. There will be a lot to learn about the Panoz because it is radically different from a V8 Supercar.”
"This is a great opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to it," the New Zealand-born racer said.
The pair arrive in the US on Monday evening. They’ll be fitted for a seat on Tuesday morning before getting their first taste of the powerful Panoz prototype that afternoon.
Murphy and Noske will do battle against Australian David Brabham and a host of international stars in the day-night Le Mans race on New Year’s Eve.
