Mork and Williams prepare attack on Planet Bathurst

24/10/2000 14:32 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - Announced yesterday, veteran racer Richard Mork will partner Steve Williams in the V8 Racing Commodore at Bathurst next month.

53-year-old Mork – primarily a “Lites” competitor this year (he finished twelfth in the inaugural Konica-backed Championship) – will team with Williams, 38, in the No. 77 VS Commodore for the 1000km V8 Supercar season finale.

Williams has four Bathurst starts to his name, highlighted by a second-in-class finish on the Mountain in 1989.

His last visit to the rural New South Wales circuit produced a 16th-place finish in the Primus 1000 of ‘97.

The pair will pilot a revamped V8 Racing Commodore following Mork’s crash at Mallala in the final round of the Lites Series. Both of the team’s engines have been overhauled for the Bathurst campaign.

The car will be completed within the next couple of weeks before the small Londonderry-based (NSW) team hit the track for pre-Bathurst testing.
