Team Attitude gives leg-up to V8 X-Gen
18/10/2000 21:43 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - X-Generation clothing company Attitude has thrown its support behind some of the future stars of V8 Supercar racing, signing young up-and-comers Cameron McConville, Paul Dumbrell, Adam Macrow and Matthew White.
Attitude Inc. and their hand-picked young talents – some of the most promising of those waiting in the Supercar wings – are a match made in Motorsport heaven, Attitude Managing Director Justin Herald says.
"This sponsorship combines both youth and professionalism, both of which Attitude has been long looking for within the V8 Supercar teams and drivers," Herald said.
"These guys fit totally into the Attitude way of thinking," he said.
Attitude had been supporting John Faulkner’s Shell Series campaign, however a bitter falling-out between the two had the clothing company looking elsewhere to, as Herald says, “back drivers with talent, and someone who appreciates the sponsorship given."
Matthew White, 26, was a stand-out in this year’s inaugural V8 Lites Series, finishing second behind title victor Dean Canto.
Cameron McConville has raced for some the biggest teams in the country, including Dick Johnson Racing, the Holden Racing Team, and Audi’s Factory-backed Super Touring operation.
The 26-year-old Victorian has been campaigning a Commodore in this year’s Shell Series under the Rod Nash banner. McConville will team with fellow Attitude recruit, 18-year-old open-wheeler star Paul Dumbrell, for Nash’s 2000 Bathurst assault.
Dumbrell will compete in next year’s Konica Series (formally the “Lites” class) as part of a yet-to-be-announced deal with a new V8 Supercar team.
1998 Formula Ford champion Adam Macrow, 21, will partner John Faulkner in the Team Asia Online Commodore at the FAI 1000 next month.
Attitude’s Motorsport Manager, Craig Holowell, is thrilled the company can nurture some of Australia’s most promising talent on four wheels.
"Signing Paul, Cameron, Adam and Matthew is a very exciting time for Attitude Inc. and also the drivers. We are both hoping that we have a very long and fruitful relationship along with much success," Holowell said.
Fans can meet and greet with Team Attitude’s Motorsport squad at the Attitude stand at Bathurst throughout the FAI 1000 weekend.
