This is the thirteenth time Sandown has played host to a V8Supercar meeting, more times than any other circuit except Eastern Creek. Sandown played host to the debut appearance of the V8Supercar category in 1992 when two VP Commodores and an EB Falcon joined in amongst the field of Group A's in the 1992 Sandown 500. The previous meetings were six Shell Series Rounds and seven Sandown 500 enduros. The Shell rounds were won by Mark Skaife (1994 & 1999), Larry Perkins (1995), Craig Lowndes (1996 & 1998), and Glenn Seton (1997). The Sandown 500's were won by Geoff Brabham/David 'Skippy' Parsons (1993), Dick Johnson/John Bowe (1994 & 1995), Craig Lowndes/Greg Murphy (1996 & 1997) and Larry Perkins/Russell Ingall (1998). In the original 1992 Sandown 500 event only one car V8Supercar finished, Tomas Mezera/Brad Jones in third place.
The individual races have been won by Craig Lowdnes (6), John Bowe (5), Glenn Seton (4), Mark Skaife (4), Larry Perkins (2), Dick Johnson (2), Greg Murphy (2), Russell Ingall, Geoff Brabham and David 'Skippy' Parsons. The dashes have been won by Mark Poole (2), John Bowe, Jim Richards, John Briggs and Cameron McLean.
Holden have won 12 races at Sandown compared to Ford's 10.
Craig Lowndes currently holds the lap record at 1:11.6535 and was set in 1999.
Holdens outnumber Fords in the entry 22-15.
Making their Sandown V8Supercar debuts are Rick Bates, Damien White and Christian D'Agostin.
Mark Skaife has scored the most V8Supercar Shell Series points at Sandown with 372 points, just ahead of Glenn Seton (366), next is John Bowe (331) with Craig Lowndes the only other driver above 300 points (304).
The most experienced V8Supercar drivers present in the entry list are Larry Perkins and John Bowe with 256 V8Supercar race starts each. The least experienced is Derek van Zelm who made his debut at the Queensland 500 last month.
This is Greg Murphy's 50th V8Supercar race meeting.

Mark Skaife's win at the Queensland 500 was his 17th career V8Supercar event win and 39th V8Supercar race win. Craig Lowndes achieved his 21st career V8Supercar event win and 55th V8Supercar race win. It was also his 50th race win in the Shell Series.
At the Queensland 500 Glenn Seton became the first driver to achieve 5000 points driving V8Supercars in the Shell Series. His current tally sits on 5063. Mark Skaife is next on 4580. A good finish at Sandown for John Bowe could see him to be the fifth driver to pass 4000 points, he is currently on 3929. On 992 points Steven Ellery is poised to become the 21st driver to score 1000 points.
Holden has extended their unbroken run of victories to 19, a new record. At Sandown they are posied to become the first Manufacturer to achieve 20 consecutive Shell Series round wins.
