Productive practice for Super Cheap Auto Racing

19/4/2005 13:15 (Press Release) - Hometown hero Greg Murphy has declared himself happy with today’s first practice session for this weekend’s Placemakers V8 International at Pukekohe, just outside Auckland, New Zealand.

Murphy finished the first two-hour session in ninth position in the #51 Super Cheap Auto Racing Holden VZ Commodore, while team-mate Paul Weel finished in 20th position, just one-tenth of a second off Murphy’s best time.

Both drivers reported the Super Cheap Auto Racing Commodores to be consistent throughout this afternoon’s two hour session – the session allowing teams and drivers the opportunity to make a number of changes to car set-up in preparation for tomorrow and Sunday’s races.

Paul Weel - #50 Super Cheap Auto Racing Holden Commodore
P1 – 20th position (56.2873secs)

“Today was an extremely productive day and I am reasonably pleased – just one-tenth of a second quicker and I’d have been in the top 10. We made a couple of changes and went stiffer in the springs which probably didn’t work, but that’s the beauty of having a two hour session like we did today, we had time to try things out. On our base set-up we’ve got a pretty good car so I’m pretty confident looking to tomorrow.”

Greg Murphy - #51 Super Cheap Auto Racing Holden Commodore
P1 – 9th position (56.1533secs)

“It’s been a good day and I’m very happy with the way things have been going. We ran the entire session on practice tyres while most ahead of us changed to ‘greens’. We made a couple of changes, some worked, others didn’t, but overall the car was extremely consistent and fast.”

The action continues at Pukekohe tomorrow when qualifying begins at 11.30am, with both the Top 10 Shootout and the first of this weekend’s three races following in the afternoon.
