OUTBREAK OF INDY FEVER STRIKES TODAY
13/4/2005 22:14 (Press Release) -
Indy Fever is spreading. The outbreak started today with the ticket launch for the 15th annual Lexmark Indy 300 to be held on the streets of Surfers Paradise from October 20 to 23.
Queensland Acting Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Sport Terry Mackenroth and Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas unveiled the ‘catchy look’ of the Lexmark Indy 300 for 2005, as well as announcing a number of new initiatives and tickets going on sale.
V8 Supercar drivers David Besnard and Paul Morris, Bartercard Miss Indy Jane-Lee O’Neil, Lexmark Indy 300 Chairman John Cowley and Lexmark Indy 300 General Manager James O’Brien were also on hand to ‘pull the covers off’ the Lexmark Indy 300 this year.
Mr O’Brien said Queensland’s premier Event would once again be highlighted by a round of the Champ Car World Series and a round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series being contested around the picturesque yet challenging 4.47km street circuit.
Today’s launch featured the announcement by Mr Lucas of the ‘Ride Free To Lexmark Indy 300’ initiative. All Lexmark Indy 300 ticket holders will be able to travel free to the Event on the QR Citytrain and Surfside Buslines network.
With a creative and unique Lexmark Indy 300 image as the backdrop, Mr O’Brien announced a number of other spectator initiatives set to spread Indy Fever again in 2005.
“This year we have new grandstand names which will make it easier for patrons to identify their location,” said O’Brien. “We will be having Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Grandstands to cater for the various budgets and preferred vantage points of patrons.”
“We are also introducing, by popular demand, a Family Weekend Ticket (2 Adults, 2 Children) which will cover the key days and nights of racing – Friday night (from 5pm), Saturday and Sunday.
“We will also be providing three viewing areas for people with a disability, providing more flexibility and viewing options for these spectators.
“Each year we endeavour to improve the spectating experience, and all the initiatives announced today from ‘Ride Free To Lexmark Indy 300’, to new Grandstand names, introduction of new tickets and viewing options for people with a disability, will go along way in making the 2005 Event the best yet.
“Our aim is to attract more than 300,000 spectators over four days, a feat we achieved last year as our numbers have continually grown since 1995.
“With the inclusion of Team Australia driver Marcus Marshall in the Champ Car World Series and the growing popularity of the V8 Supercars, the ingredients are there once again to present a record-breaking Lexmark Indy 300 to a world-wide audience.”
Supporting the Champ Cars and V8 Supercars will be a jam-packed motor racing line-up featuring the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup, V8 Utes and Wright Patton Shakespeare Aussie Racing Cars, plus an off track entertainment program headlined by the Sea FM Airshow, Bartercard Miss Indy and Bartercard V8 Supergirl, and more than 50 other events.
The Lexmark Indy 300 will be held on the Gold Coast from October 20 to 23. The Lexmark Indy 300 will be round 13 of the Champ Car World Series, while the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge held at the Lexmark Indy 300 will be round 11 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
