V8 Supercar family to tackle Condo 750
13/4/2005 21:50 (Press Release) -
Super Cheap Auto Racing V8 Supercar star Paul Weel is getting down and dirty this Easter. Weel is teaming up with his father, Kees, to contest the tough and rugged Condo 750 cross country rally in a highly-modified all-wheel-drive V8 Holden ute backed by PWR Performance Products.
The ute is a prototype developed by Holden Motorsport which successfully debuted in the hands of Nathan Pretty during last year’s Australian Safari, finishing 11th overall.
“The Condo 750 is a great race; it’s pretty rough, but good fun and something different to the pressures of V8 Supercars and we’re really excited about getting out there in this awesome V8 Holden ute,” Paul said.
Paul is currently ranked fourth in V8 Supercar Championship points following the opening round of the series, the Clipsal 500, in Adelaide last weekend.
“This is taking us back to our old days of racing before we first started in V8 Supercars.”
The Weels are no strangers to racing on dirt; Paul is a two-time Australian Stadium Off-Road Champion (1997/98) and was runner-up in the Australian 125cc Motorcross Championship in ’95, while Kees has won the Condo 750 four times previously, along with the Australian Safari in 1995.
“I’ll be handling the driving chores while Dad is navigating. Navigation plays a big role in this event, so it could become the Griswald’s Easter Vacation if we take a few wrong turns!” Paul said.
The Condo 750 takes place this Easter weekend, 26/27 March, at Condobolin, NSW.
