CRASH AND BANG AFFAIR FOR AUTOBARN'S DAVISON

13/4/2005 18:56 (Press Release) - Autobarn Racing endured a crash and bang affair this weekend in the
opening round of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship Series on the
Adelaide street circuit with an two crashes, a flat tyre and a loss of
power all part of a very tough weekend at the office for driver Alex
Davison.

Following a poor qualifying performance that relegated to the team to
31st grid position Davison made a fast start to the opening leg of the
two race format in Adelaide and quickly moved into a race pace and an
early battle with the Fujitsu Falcon of Steve Owen.

The ensuing battle with a group of six cars sandwiching the young
Victorians charge early in race one, eventually forcing Davison to brake
too hard and lock the rear wheels, spinning out of contention and into a
tyre wall.

With only superficial damage to the rear of the Autobarn Commodore,
Davison continued the race battle near the rear of field.

By mid race with his tyres under heavy load, Davison again pushed hard
with only to endure a punctured left front tyre that caused two more off
track excursions in succession eventually pushing the car front on into
another tyre barrier.

The damage to the front of the car and the flat tyre was enough to split
what was left of Davison's left front tyre on his return to the pit, the
Autobarn machine losing the tyre altogether in a cloud of smoke.

With repairs made the team again hit the track only to suffer a power
failure exiting the chicane less than 20 laps from home.

Sunday's race two saw a near new looking Autobarn Racing Commodore line
up at rear of field with a new engine in place and a revitalized Davison
behind the wheel.

Clearly focused on a clean race to salvage championship points, Davison
started well and quickly moved into a race speed aiming to stay out of
trouble.

Davison worked his way through the field in race two narrowly missing a
number of incidents with other cars to secure 21st position outright in
the final race.

"Race one was a shocker. I think the roof was the only panel on the car
that was still straight. Not a good result, a not at all what we were
looking for this weekend." Said Davison

"I'm really disappointed with the crashes and I think these may have
been the cause of the power loss. We will have to wait until next week
to see what happened there."

"Race two was much better in terms of speed and results and while I'm
not happy with 21st I can say 78 laps a day around here has certainly
taught me a lot about the cars." he concluded.
