Team BOC Session Report

13/4/2005 18:40 (Press Release) - Clipsal 500
Adelaide Street Circuit
Round 1 V8 Supercars Championship
Race 2- Sunday, 20 March 2005

It was race full of incidents for both Team BOC drivers, especially towards the latter part. An electrical problem just nine laps from the end was a cruel blow for John Bowe. Sitting in 10th place at the time, he looked certain to bring home a solid result but the fault could not be repaired and he was forced to sit on the side of the race track for the few remaining laps.

After being spun innocently on two occasions, Brad Jones worked hard throughout the entire race with a Team BOC Falcon that was setting some of the fastest race lap times during the concluding stages. He had clawed his way back from 25th position to 13th when just four laps from the end, a left hand front calliper seal ruptured causing the brake pedal to go straight to the floor. A make-shift repair meant two laps were lost in pit lane, rendering Jones to 20th place.

John Bowe - #12 Team BOC Ford Falcon

Qualified: 11th
Race 1: 13th
Race 2: DNF
Race 3: N/A

Quotes: John Bowe
“To get that far [69 laps] and have to watch the cars go past for nine laps was tough. We didn’t have the best race package but we hovered inside the top ten for most of the day and it’s just devastating that we couldn’t bring home a result. I kept asking my crew if I should come in and change my rear tyres which had worn badly but the decision was to stay out and grin and bear it. It looked like it was going to be the right decision until nine laps to go.”

Brad Jones - #21 Team BOC Ford Falcon

Qualified: 21st
Race 1: 12th
Race 2: 20th
Race 3: N/A

Quotes: Brad Jones
“It was a very hard race and for most, for all the wrong reasons. I copped a few hits during the race minding my own business, which at the time cost me valuable spots. About half way through the race I started to get brake fade but my crew were telling me that the data showed there was nothing wrong. I battled on but with just a few laps to go, the pedal went bang, straight to the floor. I brought the car in, the guys added some fluid and did a quick bleed which fixed the problem enough for me to finish. Obviously I’m really disappointed because we looked like we could end up 12th or 13th but we can take away from the weekend the fact we have improving race cars.”
