Howard Racing 2nd and 6th overall in HPDC V8 Supercar Series
13/4/2005 18:29 (Press Release) -
Howard Racing drivers Adam Macrow and Mark Howard roared around the old Formula One street circuit surrounding the sun-drenched parklands of central Adelaide for the Clipsal 500 and finished in spectacular form in 2nd and 6th places!
Record crowds watched on as Race One kicked off Friday with the drivers lined up on the grid in their qualifying positions - Adam from 2nd and Mark starting from 8th spot. It was a great start to the race for Dean Canto (from pole position) and Warren Luff and Tony D’Alberto (from third and fourth starting positions), pushing Adam back into fourth place – but not for long. Warren Luff had to go back into the pits for a replacement tyre and Adam hit top gear, clawing in front of D’Alberto to take back 2nd position.
Mark Howard battled his way through the field, managing to avoid the trouble many drivers experienced coming up to turn four - with the setting sun hindering visibility. Several drivers ran wide and were lucky to escape without hitting the wall. A flawless drive from Mark saw him finish in 8th position - his highest ever.
Race two on Saturday morning saw Adam and Mark starting from the same grid positions as Race One. Spurred on by their great results in the previous race, both drivers were determined to get off the line quickly and not lose any ground to their competitors…and that’s exactly what they did.
In what was another eventful race, the top ten leader board changed frequently and we saw five cars go off the track and not return to finish.
Mark and Adam however, put in more than a solid performance with their fastest lap times coming close to breaking the track record.
Race Two finished in similar style to Race One, with Adam and Mark keeping their positions of 2nd and 8th place. When the combined weekend points were tallied up, Adam took 2nd place overall and Mark moved up into 6th place overall!
Team Manager Warren Davis commented that the team’s hard work was well rewarded.
“Both Mark and Adam performed impressively and that, combined with an extremely encouraging effort put in by the whole team, saw us achieve great results for Round One. Finishing with both cars in the Top 10 is the exact start to the season we were aiming for.”
Proving their consistency yet again, the Howard Racing Team finished as the strongest performing two-car team without incidents over the weekend.
The cars have both arrived back safely from Adelaide and are now due for servicing and rebuilds to parts as required. Another test day is planned prior to the next round at Wakefield Park on 13-15 May.
