Dumbrell makes top five for Castrol Team Perkins Racing

13/4/2005 18:27 (Press Release) - Paul Dumbrell has bought the number 24 Castrol Team Perkins Racing entry home in fifth position in the final leg of the Clipsal 500, Adelaide. It was another challenging race for the drivers, with Steven Richards feeling the grunt of the 78 lap endurance race crossing the line in 26th after an action packed weekend.

Both TPR cars ran a strong race; however Dumbrell proved to be the dark horse, charging through the field from 16th on the starting grid to secure an impressive top five finish.

Considering it was the first time Dumbrell has been back in the car for 2005, the team is pleased with the result of securing valuable championship points.

“The car improved dramatically compared to yesterday giving the team a great platform for a good result.” Dumbrell said.

“The boys blitzed the pit stops which allowed us to make up positions and climb through the field to keep a strong position.”

An unfortunate Richards was not as lucky, being a victim of one of the many barriers surrounding the street circuit that caused front end damage to the car.

“In the first incident the car simply understeered into the exit of turn ten which resulted in a pit stop to replace the front left tyre.” Richards said.

“The second incident I locked the brakes and the only option was to go straight ahead to avoid hitting the wall.”

After a hectic pit stop to repair the damage, the Castrol crew got the car back on track with only two laps remaining allowing Richards to finish the race.

Obviously disappointed with the result, Richards stated the car was performing well all weekend and had a good chance of securing a podium finish.

“The Castrol Commodore was very good and the team did a fantastic job. I was in a position to challenge the lead and I am very disappointed with the overall result for the whole team.”

“It is a wasted opportunity considering we were running 2nd however I am looking forward to New Zealand and hope at improving on my fourth place in 2004.”

Castrol Team Perkins Racing will head to New Zealand for round two mid April. For all the latest team news check out the official website at www.perkinsmotorsport.com.au
