VESRIX Preview - Queensland 500

8/9/2000 5:37 (Shane Rogers) - Statistics for Round 11 of the 2000 Shell Championship Series, Queensland Raceway, Ipswich, Queensland.

This is the fourth time Queensland Raceway has played host to a V8Supercar meeting, the previous three meetings being all being Shell Series Rounds. The previous sprint rounds were won by Garth Tander (1999) and Craig Lowndes (2000). The third event was the 1999 Queensland 500, which was won by Russell Ingall and Larry Perkins.

The individual races have been won by Craig Lowndes (4), Russell Ingall (2), John Bowe and Larry Perkins. The only dash was won by Rodney Forbes.

Holden have won 6 races at Queensland Raceway compared to Ford's 1.

Garth Tander currently holds the lap record at 1:11.0033 and was set in 1999.

Holdens outnumber Fords in the entry 21-14.

As with any endurance event, there are a number of co-drivers making debut appearances. Making their V8Supercar debuts are James Brock, Christian Murchison, Anthony Robson, Phillip Scifleet, Derek van Zelm, Adam Wallis, and Luke Youlden. In addition there are drivers are making their V8Supercar debut at Queensland Raceway. Making their Queensland Raceway V8Supercar debuts are Rick Bates, David Besnard, John Cleland, Terry Finnigan, Ross Halliday, Darren Hossack, Garry Holt, Tyler Mecklem, Ryan McLeod, Nathan Pretty, Rod Salmon, Kevin Schwantz, Paul Stokell, Damien White and Terry Wyhoon.

Craig Lowndes has scored the most Shell series points at Queensland Raceway (518) just ahead of Garth Tander (504).

The most experienced driver present in the entry list is Glenn Seton with 265 race starts. The least experienced are the rookies listed above.

With Jason Bright unable to fulfll duties at Dick Johnson Racing, Dick Johnson returns from retirement for a one-off drive at the Ozemail Queensland 500. This will be Dick's 223rd V8Supercar start. Dick is placed 6th in the rankings for most V8Supercar race starts on 222 behind Glenn Seton (264), John Bowe (255), Larry Perkins (255), Mark Skaife (239) and
Tony Longhurst (229). During the V8Supercar era Dick has won three events, been on the podium 16 times and placed in the top ten 64 times, and won 7 individual races, including the 1994 Bathurst 1000.

Steven Richards's win at Calder Park is his fourth career event win, the others being the 1998 Bathurst 1000, the 1999 Bathurst 1000 and the 2000 Canberra 400. This was his first 'triple-sprint' format win. Paul Radisich's Race 1 win was his fifth V8Supercar race win. Mark Larkham's Race 2 win was his third V8Supercar race win. Steven Richards Race 3 win was his third V8Supercar race win.

Glen Seton is within 39 points of becoming the first to accumulate 5000 poitns in the Shell Series.

Holden continues to lengthen it's record breaking run of successive round victories for a manafacturer in Shell series history. The record stands at 18 consecutive wins.
