BEZZIE’S BIG ON LITTLE RACER
13/4/2005 17:49 (Press Release) -
Wright Patton Shakespeare V8 racing ace, David Besnard, showed that size doesn’t really matter at the opening round of the V8 Supercar Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
Besnard displayed his versatile driving talents after racing both the diminutive Aussie Racer and the powerful V8 Supercar on the testing street circuit amid the ‘city of churches’.
The 27-year-old temporarily downsized to contest two races in the popular Aussie Racers following the naming rights sponsor announcement from the Wright Patton Shakespeare financial group – also the new primary sponsor of the Wright Patton Shakespeare Porsche Carrera Cup.
“I wanted to have a go in the Aussie Racers, they’re a wild category, but obviously my prime focus in on the V8s this weekend,” said Besnard, who created a media stir in pit lane with his two favourite ‘toys’ yesterday.
“I started at the back of the grid which is always tough and the racing is very competitive in this category. At the end of the day, I got to see the track from a very different perspective, and had a lot of fun, but now we have to knuckle down and go V8 racing.”
Aussie Racers boss, Phil Ward, said the opportunity to have one of the most talented V8 drivers behind the tiny wheel of the Wright Patton Shakespeare machine was too good to surpass.
“To have a driver of David’s calibre racing in this exciting class is great, he drove the wheels of the thing despite a few technical hitches we had with the car,” said Ward.
“The Aussie Racers is extremely popular with the fans and David’s foray into the category, albeit a one-off, has added great exposure to the sport. We know his main commitment is obviously in the V8 Supercar category, but he enjoyed himself and did well considering he had no time in the car.”
Besnard and his new WPS Racing team-mate David Baird, who was still celebrating his Porsche GT3 Cup series win in New Zealand last week, are anticipating a better result today (SUN) after a ‘disappointing’ qualifying round on Friday.
The WPS Racing outfit, sponsored by Gold Coast businessman, Craig Gore, is enjoying its second year in the fiercely competitive V8 Supercar Championship.
