Wilson show's his outstanding ability

13/4/2005 17:44 (Press Release) - Amazing, fantastic, remarkable, what more can be said about the pint size Brazilian dynamo, Max Wilson after the effort he put in during Race 2 today, at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500.

Wilson driving car #45, the ‘Wow Sight & Sound’ Holden Commodore of the newly formed Longhurst Racing team, started at the back of the grid because of an electrical fault in the car during yesterday’s race, causing him to retire from the race after 56 laps.

Today was a whole different scenario, with a great outcome not only for Wilson but also for new team owner, Tony Longhurst and sponsor for the round, ‘Wow Sight & Sound’ in their initial entry into the 2005 V8 Supercar Series.

Wilson battled through the field early in the race to be a serious challenger for a good finishing position. The team had worked through the strategy for the race to give Wilson the best possible chance of success given his starting position.

This was almost brought undone after an incident that saw Wilson and Kelly collide in the early part of the race. Wilson managed to recover but the incident put him well back in the field with the job ahead of him yet again. As a result of the incident Kelly was given a drive through penalty.

“I was very happy with the strategy of the team to leave me out there as long as possible before coming in for new tyres “ - said Wilson.

“It certainly worked well for me, and the last part of the race was the best for me,”

“ I did have some anxious moments when I had to come back up through the field, but the car was fantastic, the team had prepared it really well and it handled great,” - said a well satisfied Wilson after the event.
“ Doing the last 11 laps on fresh tyres was great for me,” - he commented.

Longhurst was also very happy with the performance of both the car and the driver during the weekend.
“Max has driven extremely well, considering he has never driven a Holden previously,“
“ I am very happy with the outcome of this first round and look forward to bigger and better outcomes as we grow as a team during the year,“ – remarked Longhurst after the race.

The next round of V8 Supercars will be conducted at Pukekohe Race Circuit in New Zealand in four weeks April 15 – 17 at which time the team will be looking to further improve on its great first round effort.
