WILSON SETS CRACKING PACE IN PRACTICE

Max Wilson approached today’s Clipsal 500 practice session with a great deal of confidence considering it was his first outing in the ‘WOW Sight and Sound’ sponsored Holden Commodore HZ of Longhurst Racing.
The first practice session saw Wilson set a cracking pace, posting a lap time of 1.23:05 a mere half a second behind the leading car of HRT’s Rick Kelly, who posted a time of 1.23: 27.
The entire team was elated at Wilson’s effort.
As the day progressed, Wilson prepared himself for the second and final practice session only to experience an intermittent electrical fault with the car.
The team spent the majority of the second practice session trying to trace the fault to no avail, with Wilson only managing to position his car #45, at 31st in the field.
The team went to work on the car in an attempt to find the electrical fault prior to the fast approaching all - important qualifying session.
Wilson, again took to the circuit determined to put in an exceptional run to position himself well for tomorrows 78 lap race.
The electrical gremlins surfaced again, cutting power to the engine and effectively relegating Wilson to the back of the field for the start of tomorrows race.
The electrical fault has since been traced to a faulty electrical loom connection, which has now been replaced.
“It’s very difficult to trace this type of fault” said Wilson. “ I think the gremlins were out to test the team today and they did, but now everything is back to normal, however I will have the job ahead of me to make it to the front of the field in tomorrow‘s race, but nothing is impossible”.
“I am very impressed with the car, it has good pace and handles really well. Obviously I would have preferred to get more laps in today, but I am happy and confident about tomorrow’s race.” - Wilson concluded.
