Big things were expected as the Team BOC Falcons took to the track for the opening day at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. The 1-2 finish at the Australian Grand Prix had given the team a huge boost and both drivers were brimming with confidence coming into the most physically demanding event on the V8 Supercars calendar.
John Bowe, who has always shown impressive speed at the Adelaide Street Circuit continued the trend, setting the 8th and 10th fastest times in the two morning practice sessions. In the end it was just 1/10th of second that kept him out of the Top Ten Shootout and he will need to settle for an 11th place start for tomorrow’s first race.
Brad Jones was equally impressive in practice, with a 10th and 13th result. Jones went into the qualifying session giving himself a real chance of making the Shootout but it wasn’t to be after mechanical failure again plagued the #21 BOC Ford. His 21st placing was a bitter blow for the team owner, whose form and speed deserved better.

It's disappointing really, we should have made the shootout. We had the speed and the car to do it. From this morning my Team BOC Falcon felt good and we are all a bit mystified as to why we couldn’t put in a decent lap time in qualifying. 11th isn’t that bad and we’re far enough up the field to hopefully avoid the early race carnage. It’s going to be a tough race tomorrow but we’re in for a chance to get a decent result.”

“When I got out of my Team BOC Falcon after qualifying, I was devastated and very annoyed. I initially thought that I had made the wrong adjustments from inside the car which had cost us any chance of a respectable lap time. After we had a good look over the car after the qualifying session, we found that the rear anti-roll bar had snapped in two which obviously had affected the car’s balance. So now I’m more disappointed than anything else that I have to start so far back in a car that had the potential to be inside the top ten.”
