NUMBER ONE V8 SUPERCARD FOR AMBROSE

7/4/2005 19:07 (Press Release) - Two-time V8 Supercar series champion Marcos Ambrose was today acknowledged as the one of the most powerful men in Australian sport when he was confirmed as the number one cardholder of the new Visa V8 Supercard.

Ambrose received the Visa V8 Supercard during a special on-track presentation at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500, the first race of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

The presentation was in recognition of Ambrose’s two-year reign at the top of the highly competitive championship series.

V8 Supercar chairman Tony Cochrane made the announcement to signal the official launch of the Visa V8 Supercard, an initiative designed to reward the loyalty and passion of the series’ supporters.

The credit card gives holders privileged access to motorsport events and the products and services of the series’ supporting sponsors.

“We chose to launch the V8 Supercard in Adelaide as it is the first race of the season but, more importantly, it is an event where the crowd support embodies everything we are trying to reward,” he said.

“We have an incredible national support base that last year saw more than 1.6 million spectators attend our 13-round series and V8 Supercars cement its position as Australia’s third most-watched sport on TV behind cricket and AFL.

“Our attendance figures have grown more than 75% since the series started in 1997 and we believe the Supercard is one tangible way we can acknowledge that support and start rewarding it with discounts and special offers.”

Ambrose said he felt privileged to be offered the number one card.

“There have been some great champions in V8 Supercars so it is an honour to have been acknowledged in this way,” he said.

“V8 Supercars have experienced incredible growth during my time in the series and the launch of the V8 Supercard demonstrates the growing attraction of the sport to the mainstream business community.

“This will be my last season in the series before I head over to the US so the presentation of the number one card is a great way to start the year.”

Cards are available to eligible subscribers from this week.
