Yamaha Joins Forces With V8 Supercars
7/4/2005 19:04 (Press Release) -
Yamaha Motor Australia is pleased to announce that they will have an active involvement in this year’s V8 Supercar Championship Series, via a deal with series promoters AVESCO (Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company).
The move to support AVESCO with Yamaha products such as Aerox YQ100 scooters and ATVs, is not the first time that the motorcycle company has been involved with V8 Supercars. In recent years Yamaha has been a supporter of the Holden Racing Team and continues to support HRT driver Todd Kelly on a personal level.
“Yamaha Motor Australia acknowledges the link between four and two wheeled motorsport and appreciates the unique Australian flavour of the V8 races. We are certain that there’s a large number of ‘petrolheads’ interested in both racing cars and motorcycles, hence our continued involvement with this popular series,” explains Yamaha spokesperson Sean Hawker.
The supply of Yamaha vehicles will allow AVESCO staff to cater for the ever-increasing logistical requirements that exist at each of the 13 rounds that make up this years series.
Yamaha was present at the official launch of the series at Sydney’s Homebush Bay on February 19 which attracted thousands of race fans.
At the recent Australian F1 meeting in Melbourne, Kelly got his season off to a flying start with a win in the opening V8 Supercar support race.
With all of the pre-season formalities concluded, the series gets down to business this weekend in Adelaide with the Clipsal 500.
The association formed between Yamaha and AVESCO will see a number of cross promotional opportunities arise throughout the year, benefiting both two and four wheel race fans.
