How's your Fujitsu - Pretty Cool?
7/4/2005 18:19 (Press Release) -
According to Newcastle’s Greg Smith, his “pretty cool” Fujitsu AU Falcon is a challenging step up into the HPDC V8 Supercar Series, after just one year in road racing, which will commence this weekend (18 – 20) with the opening round in Adelaide (SA).
Smith has only been briefly introduced to the complexities and demands of wheeling the Dick Johnson built V8 Supercar, around a tar circuit, Wakefield Park Raceway, Goulburn. As compared to his past ten years of wrestling a 600 horse power speedway super sedan around a left hand oval clay track.
“The factory production last year was a great learning experience, understanding that some race cars actually have gears and retraining my brain to occasionally turn right as well as left. But it is nice to have that “Ben Hur” adrenaline back with a real V8 Supercar and especially being a ford falcon muscle car.” Smith said.
As a privateer, Smith and with his wife Sharon, decided to leave the “dirt track cowboys” behind after Newcastle’s famous “Motordrome (ex- Jerilderie Park)” at Tomago was converted into industrial factories.”
The farewell tour for Smith included Brisbane (Archerfield), Toowoomba (Charlton), Sydney (Parramatta) and a very successful appearance at Adelaide (Murray Bridge) where he managed to qualify on pole position for the 2004 Australian title final.
Smith is very excited about “living the dream” with this level of racing including the ultimate Bathurst support event in October.
The # 86 AU Falcon to be driven by Smith, campaigned last year by Owen Kelly, will be supported by Fujitsu promoting their new “pretty cool – air stage” inverter multi head air conditioning system.
Former Australian cricket captain, Mark “Tubby” Taylor describes his Fujitsu as “pretty cool”. Smith will also be promoting his Newcastle business church air conditioning.
“So far, driving a V8 Supercar has been like a teenager going on his first date, a combination of nerves, anticipation, and full on excitement. I can’t wait to do it again . . . And actually get better at it each time.” Smith revealed.
As was the case last year, the GSM team will be headed by Sydney engineer Terry O’Brien, who will take care of the car preparation and, he too, is looking forward to the year ahead, along with the entire Smith family team.
