A Bold Team BOC Claim More Podiums To Come

7/4/2005 15:48 (Press Release) - Team BOC got off to the ultimate season start when drivers John Bowe and
Brad Jones finished one-two respectively in the second race of the
unofficial V8 Supercar opener at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

A gutsy and brilliant decision to start a rain interrupted race on slick
tyres was the catalyst for the best team result in V8 Supercars for the two
highly experienced drivers.

It’s a result that has spurred the duo on, with both drivers making big
claims for their 2005 onslaught which kicks off this weekend at the Clipsal
500.

“It was the right tyre choice, being able to stay out of trouble as both
John [Bowe] and I dropped to the back of the field in the early and wet
stages and then pick the cars off one by one as the track dried, that gave
us the result in Melbourne,” said Brad Jones.

“Securing BOC as our naming rights sponsor this year and having made some
internal changes, the team has a new breath of life. I have no doubt that
the spring-in-our step will produce more podium results for us this year,”
Jones added.

Jones, who starts the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship in the best physical
shape of his career, is counting the sleeps to this weekend’s Clipsal 500 in
Adelaide.

“We’ll surprise a few people in 2005 year and in doing so, we’ll reward our
fans that have stuck by us through the tough times. I can’t wait to get on
the track this weekend, the Clipsal 500 is one of the best races of the
season and the whole event is world class,” Jones concluded.

For former touring car and Bathurst champ John Bowe, winning races is no
illusion but even by his own admission it’s been a long time between drinks,
with his AGP race triumph his first since 1998.

Bowe believes that starting a season with a positive result provides more
than just a confidence boost.

“There’s an old adage in golf that says if your first putt is a good one
then you putt well for the rest of the day. I think there’s a bit of truth
and relevance in that for drivers as well,” said Bowe.

“Many sports teams these days talk about the importance of momentum. When
you can start a season in the best way possible it creates the initial force
that is always the hardest part of the process,” said Bowe.

“From here, we [Team BOC} need to use the momentum from the AGP and build on
it for our entire season. If we can do that, we’ll definitely be on the
podium again this year,” Bowe concluded.
