BOTH ORRCON FALCONS IN THE TOP TEN AT GP

Following a strong finish to the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship the Larkham Motor Sport continued to "push for success" in the final race at the Foster’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne with both of the Orrcon Racing Falcons finishing inside the top ten today.
The weekend was full of positives for the team with Jason Bargwanna and Mark Winterbottom moving forward 35 positions over the three races.
In yesterday’s second race Bargwanna was the hard charger moving from his 27th starting position to run as high as seventh before dropping to 12th on a drying surface. Mark Winterbottom was also impressive over the opening two races of the weekend to move up 13 positions to start today’s final 10-lap journey from 14th.
Bargwanna moved inside the top ten during today’s opening lap as Winterbottom also elevated his Orrcon Racing Falcon up several positions to be 11th at the completion of the opening lap.
At mid race distance Bargwanna was being hounded by Jamie Whincup and Rick Kelly for seventh position while Winterbottom was pushing hard to break into the top ten.
Throughout the closing stages both drivers held their own against some very creditable opposition to finish ninth and tenth and record the team’s first dual top ten finish of the year. Today’s race was the time both of the Orrcon Racing Falcon’s have finished inside the top ten in the same race since Darwin last year.
“To have two cars inside the top ten is a great result for the team and a reward for the effort that the guys have put in over the past few months,” said Bargwanna.
“With every race this weekend we improved the car in numerous areas which is very pleasing heading into Adelaide where we had good speed last year. While the results this weekend are pleasing I am never happy until I am winning races, hopefully that isn’t too far away”
After recording his fourth top ten race finish of his career Winterbottom is confident heading into the Championship opener in a fortnight’s time.
“We had two main aims for the weekend, to get a top ten result and continually improve the speed of the car. We have achieved both of these which is very pleasing,” said Winterbottom.
“The pace and consistency that we have shown this weekend gives me some confidence heading to the opening round of the Championship in Clipsal in two weeks time.
“I got a good start today to move up a couple of spots but during the opening lap “hussle and bussle” there was contact between myself and another car which bent my steering and made the car pretty difficult to drive, especially under brakes, but I battled on and was rewarded with a good result.”
The focus for the crew at Larkham Motor Sport now turns to preparing the Orrcon Racing Falcon’s for the opening round of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide from March 17-20.
