BOTH SBR DRIVERS ON THE PODIUM IN RACE THREE

Stone Brothers Racing’s Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall finished second and third respectively in the final 10-lap support race at the Foster’s Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne today.
Both Ambrose and Ingall had strong starts and by the end of the opening lap were sitting first and second.
A lap later Mark Skaife slotted into second after a passing move at turn one and two laps later he took the lead from Ambrose in Pirtek Falcon and Ingall in the Caltex Ford.
Skaife went on to win the race by 1.2 seconds in a race which proved that the leading cars have increased their speed this season.
“I tried to hold Mark (Skaife) off, but he had a bit more car speed in the early stages and got me with a good move at turn one,” said Ambrose.
“After he got by it was a matter of trying a few things within the car and just making sure we got it home in one piece.
“We did not clinch a win this weekend, but we obviously had some pace and came away with three top-four finishes.
“It is always pleasing to come away from this race with some good results and without any major work to do on the car with the opening round of the year only two weeks away in Adelaide.”
Ingall was equally impressed with the speed of his brand new Caltex Falcon which was making its debut this weekend.
“It was nice to finish the weekend on the podium,” said Ingall.
“There was a little bit going on in those first couple of laps, but then we really settled into a grove and got on with the job. The lap times were tremendously fast.
“It was nice to come away from this weekend with three top five results and more importantly with a Caltex Falcon without a scratch on it.
“The serious stuff begins now – bring it on!”
The opening round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide on March 17-20.
