Testing time for Westpoint Racing

7/4/2005 14:46 (Press Release) - After successfully testing several new car components and set-ups at the Grand Prix this weekend Westpoint Racing heads to Queensland Raceway on Thursday for its first official test of the season.

"The engineers for both Glenn (Seton) and Steven (Johnson) made many changes to the cars this weekend, which was the plan," Westpoint Racing Operations Director Dean Orr said.

"We've done a lot of work in the off-season and had many new ideas to look at, some worked and some did not.

"Overall it was a good warm-up for the season and what we accomplished this weekend will help us on Thursday.

"Our test days are very structured and what we have learnt this weekend will make Thursday even stronger for us.

"I'm certainly happy with Glenn's Ford, it has improved a lot, and by today I was quite happy with Steven's initial speed.

"Put it this way, we are all looking forward to Adelaide."

Glenn Seton's engineer, Dave Stuart was pleased with the progress made over the Grand Prix weekend.

"What you've got to understand is that Glenn's Ford was finished last Friday week and turned on for the first time on Thursday," Stuart said.

"Glenn is happy with his car, there are still things to be done to it…absolutely, but as a new, never been driven race car Glenn is happy, which is good.

"As far as development goes, we have achieved all of our very specific target goals this weekend.

"Eighteen is good, it's definitely better than it was on Thursday, nothing mechanically went wrong and we understand were it needs to be improved.

"On top of that Glenn has very quickly adapted to his new car which, in my experience, normally takes a little while.

"We've got changes to make, we'll use the test day to its fullest and concentrate on Adelaide."

Doing it a bit tougher over the course of the weekend was Leigh Geyer, engineer to Steve Johnson.

"It's been a hard weekend, what with the rain and then the failure on Steven's car in today's final race," Geyer said.

"We won't know what today's problem was until we can strip the car but it appears to be a drive-line failure or possibly something to do with the gearbox, we'll know for sure on Wednesday.

"But we didn't achieve as much as we would have liked, or had planned, we did achieve some results but we'll concentrate on the test and have the car set for Clipsal.

"Overall the Grand Prix weekend, as Dean (Orr) has said was a good warm-up going into the start of the season."

The first round of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship Series is in Adelaide on March 17-20.
