Morris schedules test day before championship starts

7/4/2005 14:45 (Press Release) - Gold Coast driver Paul Morris has scheduled a test session for his new Sirromet Wines VZ Holden Commodore this Friday (March 11) to complete preparations for the opening round of the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship in Adelaide later this month.

Paul Morris Motorsport confirmed the test following today's third and final race in the non-championship Qantas V8 Supercar series at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix meeting in Melbourne.

The 37-year-old had an incident-free drive in today's 10-lap race on the Albert Park street circuit, and finished 19th. He had been hampered by brake problems in practice and qualifying on Thursday, and also in the opening 10-lap race on Friday. In yesterday's second race, over 19 laps, he was forced to retire early because a steering arm was broken after contact with another car.

Morris said his test this Friday would be held at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich. The team will be joined at the test by the identical new Team Kiwi Racing VZ Commodore driven by New Zealander Paul Radisich. PMM and TKR have entered into a technical partnership this year.

After the test both cars will be transported to Adelaide for the opening championship round, the Clipsal 500 from March 17-20.

PAUL MORRIS QUOTES: "We used today's race as a 10-lap test for Adelaide and got through without any dramas. Since we were starting down the back of the grid there was no point taking any risks with the new car. To be honest I would have liked to have done more laps here this weekend, but we lost track-time yesterday with the broken steering arm. We've decided to do another test this Friday at Queensland Raceway to try some more things with the brakes, which we had problems with here, and also evaluate some different car set-ups. The main thing is we've got through this week with both cars still straight. A couple of years ago I had a big shunt at the grand prix, and it hurt us in Adelaide – I didn't want that to happen again."
