First Ever One – Two Result For Team BOC

7/4/2005 14:37 (Press Release) - John Bowe and Brad Jones have driven their Team BOC Falcons to a one – two finish in race 2 at the Australian Grand Prix, in what is a remarkable result for the Albury based V8 Supercar outfit.

Making a brave choice to start the rain-marred race on slick tyres, the highly experienced duo have used every bit of their talent to deliver the best ever result for the team and the ultimate return to new sponsor – BOC.

Tasmanian and former touring car and Bathurst champ John Bowe took out the race, whilst team owner and holder of nine national titles, Brad Jones crossed the line just seconds after.

“It felt like winning Bathurst. Everybody was waving at me and I got swamped when I got out of the car,” said Bowe.

“We initially made the decision for Brad [Jones] to go out on slicks and I was going to use wet weather tyres. In a twist of fate, at the last minute I changed my mind and look what’s happened – we won!”

“I guess part of the decision was luck but there were 30 other cars out there that could have made the same choice of tyres as us, so there’s also an element of good management. Fortune favours the brave, so they say,” Bowe added.

Jones has been frustrated with his Team BOC Falcon over the last few days after suffering some mechanical failures and only yesterday commented that he was looking for the “little bit of luck”. His second place result today equals his best ever V8 Supercar performance.

“It’s just a fantastic result for the team and I’d especially like to thank our new sponsor BOC. This is the perfect start for our partnership and hopefully our result goes a small way to repay their faith in us,” said Jones.

“We didn’t have the best preparations over the past two days and our Team BOC Falcons still don’t have the best dry weather setup but after being on the backend of luck plenty of times, I’m going to take every bit of this result.”

“Ironically, on the warm-up lap I was screaming at my crew to see if I could come into the pits and swap my slicks for wets [tyres] but the rules stated that once a tyre was fitted there was no changing. The track was very, very wet for the first few laps but once it dried we were six or so seconds a lap quicker than the rest of the field,” Jones concluded.

It will now be an all Team BOC Falcon front row for the start of tomorrow’s third and final race of the V8 Supercars non-championship round at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
