It was progress all round for the HSV Dealer Team at Albert Park today as drivers Rick Kelly and Garth Tander tested different race set-ups. Kelly made up 22 places from the back row of the grid to score a top 10 finish, reversing his fortunes from Friday’s race and placing himself in with a chance for Sunday’s 10-lap final.
7/4/2005 14:29 (Press Release) -
Larkham – Orrcon Racing’s Jason Bargwanna put in an impressive hard charging display during the second QANTAS V8 Supercar race at the Foster’s Australian Grand Prix today.
After being forced to start from position 27 due to yesterday’s opening lap incident Bargwanna was the big early mover moving passing 14 cars in the opening lap. His Larkham – Orrcon Racing team mate Mark Winterbottom had also moved up the order from his 20starting position to be in 17th when the safety car was deployed due to an opening lap incident.
On the lap five restart Bargwanna was positioned just outside the top ten with Winterbottom climbing inside the top 15 throughout the ensuing laps.
Throughout the next few laps Bargwanna moved into seventh while he was engaged in a five-way battle for positions four through to nine.
On a rapidly drying circuit both Bargwanna and Winterbottom began to struggle with their wet weather tyres losing grip after half race distance.
Bargwanna battled on to finish just outside the top ten in twelfth with Winterbottom two spots further back in fourteenth. John Bowe took out the race ahead of his Brad Jones, the pair were the only two drivers to gamble with slick tyres for the event. Third was Mark Skaife.
The third and final QANTAS V8 Supercar race at the 2005 Foster’s Australian Grand Prix will be held tomorrow at 11:30am.
DRIVER QUOTES
Jason Bargwanna - Orrcon Racing Falcon Number 10
"Today was a good result for us after yesterday's disappointment. The car was good early, I do wish that the track had stayed wetter for longer as our set was very strong in the wet. Each time we have hit the track this weekend we have improved the car which is the main aim for this weekend.
"It was a great effort by JB (John Bowe) and Brad (Jones) as they made a good call with their gamble on slicks and I'd like to congratulate them for their one-two"
Mark Winterbottom - Orrcon Racing Falcon Number 20
"It was a good result today to continually be moving forward. To now be starting 14th for tomorrow's final race is a lot better than 27th where we began yesterday. The team are continually improving the car and it is showing with the improving position and pace with each race.
"Tomorrow's race will be very interesting with a mixture of fast cars spread throughout the field, my aim will be to crack into the top ten."
