HSV Dealer Team eyes Adelaide

22/3/2005 19:23 (Press Release) - HSV Dealer Team’s Rick Kelly and Garth Tander will be looking to gain valuable track time in this weekend’s remaining V8 Supercar races at Albert Park after race incidents put them out of today’s V8 Supercar opener.

Both are now focused on making maximum use of Saturday’s 19-lap race and Sunday’s 10-lap sprint to further develop their new VZ Commodores in readiness for the opening round of the V8 Supercar Series in Adelaide in a fortnight.

Kelly’s race ended on the first lap when a nudge to the front left wheel bent a steering rod, leaving him no alternative but to pit and to face the disappointment of a start from the rear of the grid in the next race.

Tander, starting from seventh place on the grid, showed excellent car speed as he ran as high as sixth place. His race came to the end on the last lap when he became stuck in a gravel trap.

According to HSV Dealer Team Manager Rob Crawford, the focus now shifts to getting both cars set for the Clipsal 500 and the season proper.

#15 Rick Kelly:
“I was disappointed to lose valuable laps today, as we need to get to grips with the new car. Our intention tomorrow is to get as much track time as possible, stay out of trouble, and be ready for Adelaide.”

#16 Garth Tander:
“I was pleased with the pace of the car today – we are not far off the fastest lap. But the car behaves a little different to what I am used to, so we are planning a few changes to make it more like I am used to over the race distance.”
