BOTH SBR CARS IN THE TOP 10 FOR GP OPENER

17/3/2005 18:03 (Press Release) - Stone Brothers Racing’s Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall will both start in the top 10 of the opening V8 Supercar race at the Foster’s Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne tomorrow, despite some qualifying dramas.

Ambrose has qualified fifth in his Pirtek Falcon despite a mishap in qualifying on his first set of tyres while Ingall will start from eighth in his Caltex Racing Ford after a starter motor drama left him stranded in the pits on a brand-new set of tyres mid-way through the session.

There will be a 10-lap race tomorrow, a 19-lap contest on Saturday and a final 10-lapper on Sunday.

“I had a bit of a moment at turn one on my first set of tyres and they were done,” said Ambrose.
“To finish with the lap I did with the running I had to my second set of tyres was pleasing.
“I think we certainly could have gone quicker with more running, but there are no excuses.
“We just need to learn as much as we can over the next three days and go into Adelaide with the best package possible.
“It is all about getting your line and length right this weekend so Adelaide is hopefully mistake free.”

Ingall was fourth on the time sheets when he came in to change tyres, but could only watch on as he slipped back to eighth.

“There is no doubt that the fact that we did not get to do a lap on the second set of tyres was very disappointing,” said Ingall.
“The car was quick in practice and I think we should at least be on the first two rows, if not the front row.
“It will be vital for us to get through the first few corners tomorrow without any dramas and then settle into a bit of a groove
“It will be tough to win the opening race from eighth of the grid, especially when we only have 10 laps to get the job done.
“We just need to stay out of trouble early and charge on when we get the chance.”
