Richo 'Green for Go'

17/3/2005 17:40 (Press Release) - Steven Richards has been given the green light to run the number 11 Team Perkins Racing entry at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

After a busy off-season in the workshop, the Castrol Commodore is ready to rumble down the streets of Albert Park and show Formula One what true grunt is all about.

The Grand Prix support event is the first time the cars will be released in 2005 and presents the perfect opportunity to shake off any cobwebs gathered in the off-season.

With only two weeks until the first round of the Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Steven Richards is confident he has what it takes to win races.

“Last year we were very consistent with our results but lacked race wins. This year we aim at raising the bar and walking away with the winner’s trophy.” Richards said.

“Qualifying on pole at the Grand Prix would be an ideal start. With the races formatted in a way that you need to start up the front to finish up the front, we will be analysing these things from a team’s point of view to ensure that we have the best possible set up to get these results.”

Richards has his mind set on leading the field around the demanding Albert Park circuit, and has high hopes of kicking off the season with a win.

“Mid to late last year the car was more than capable of qualifying on pole, the speed was good and reliability was strong. The possibility of being on pole at the Grand Prix is certainly achievable.”

After finishing fifth in the 2004 Championship Richards feels that the secret to consistent results is to secure as many points as possible and improve on last years results.

“As a team we are working toward taking the next step up on the podium. We had several second positions in 2004 and to move up just one more is the ultimate aim.

“Last year was the best year I have had so far as I was on the podium several times. This year I want to make those podium finishes a frequent occurrence.

“From a driver’s perspective I hope to improve on errors that cost the team points in 2004, I want to make every result count.”

With three races scheduled across the weekend, it is bound to be a challenging battle when the lights go green at Albert Park. The first race of the season is sure to be impressive and Team Perkins Racing is a team to watch out for.
