When aiming for success in any given field of expertise individuals, teams and businesses are constantly striving to achieve goals, fulfill potential and tap into talents that will drive them harder and faster for longer.
In 2004 Larkham Motor Sport recorded their best result in the Championship with Jason Bargwanna leading the charge in his Orrcon Racing Falcon and finishing as the next best placed Ford driver behind the Championship winning Stone Brothers Racing outfit.
His team-mate Mark Winterbottom was also a shining light during his rookie V8 Supercar Championship year in 2004 running as high as 12th in the highly competitive points chase.
Now the team is aiming for the next level.
In 2005 Bargwanna and Winterbottom will be “pushing for success” harder than ever as the team strives to achieve a number of new goals throughout the year.
“Last year was a tremendous year for the team, we really showed what can be made of a team striving for success and working towards a common goal,” said Bargwanna.
“When you look at the guys in the team they have worked their butts off to get this team to where it is and are very passionate towards their work, the racing and achieving their goals. There is a feeling around the team reminds me of when I was at Garry Rogers (Bargwanna’s previous team) in ‘99 and 2000 where the team was extremely successful.
“There is a good vibe around the guys at the workshop now, after last year they really want to push for more success in 2005. It is not often that you get to the end of the year and the team wants to keep on working, or cut their holidays short, to enable them to develop more bits and pieces on the car.
“One of the things that make our team hungrier to achieve their goals is the fact that apart from Larko and Adam Perry (team manager) I think that our truck driver Wayne (Cowper) is the only person to be a part of a race win before.”
While the engineers and mechanics have worked tirelessly on the development of the cars, Bargwanna and Winterbottom have stepped up their summer training program to ensure that they are on top of their game for the entire season.
“I have always been pretty active and worked on my fitness but now after a full year in the Championship it has given me more of an understanding of the high level of fitness that is required,” said Winterbottom.
“Over the summer break I spent most of the time in Sydney and I was training on a daily basis focusing mostly on cardio fitness, including some boxing along with some weight work as well. I feel the fittest that I have for a long time.”
While Larkham Motor Sport continues “pushing for success”, so too are major sponsors Orrcon, manufacturers and distributors of steel tube, as the two businesses continue to mirror each other in their respective fields.
Just as Larkham Motor Sport did in the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Orrcon overcame setbacks in the steel industry but whatever it was they addressed it and came out to compete again and continued to produce results under adversity.
This year Orrcon aims to pull further away from the competition as they “push for success” in 2005.
“There is no doubt there will be some set backs, both for us at Orrcon and the race team, but I believe in our ability to persevere, not buckle, and to come out to compete again. Who knows maybe we’ll get luckier! And we all know that the harder (and smarter!) we work, the luckier we get,” said Orrcon Chief Executive Officer Silvio Pradella.
The Orrcon Racing Falcons take to the track for the first time in 2005 on Thursday at the Foster’s Australian Grand Prix around Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit.
