Longhurst back in the saddle as Team Dynamik sells licence

Veteran racer Tony Longhurst will dust off his driver suit one more time to compete in the V8 Supercar Championship Series preview at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this weekend.
Longhurst is in the final stages of buying Team Dynamik’s second level one franchise which should be ratified tomorrow and sets an intriguing scenario for the V8 Supercar season.
The two-time Bathurst winner can do one of two things. He can operate a team on its own merit or remain involved with Team Dynamik as a commercial partner and part team owner.
More interestingly, it means that a decision must be made on who drives the Longhurst car in the first round at the Clipsal 500 in a fortnight. Team Dynamik has two drivers – Will Davison and Simon Wills – with the former talking the seat at the grand prix.
“It’s very much a case of me driving at the grand prix and then it is watching this space,” Longhurst said.
“There are many things still to be put in place to determine precisely what happens with the licence for the rest of the year. At the moment I am sourcing sponsorship and other commercial arrangements.”
There are two trains of thought, one that Wills, son of Team Dynamik principal Kieran Wills, may step aside for Davison for the season and Longhurst drives under his licence or secures another driver.
In other news it has been decided that Team Perkins Racing’s Paul Dumbrell and Britek’s Steve Owen will miss out on events that host only 32 cars. This means the pair will not appear in New Zealand, Perth, the Gold Coast and Tasmania.
The formula applied is that the first 30 cars gains automatic entry and then two cars are chosen as wildcards by AVESCO Chief Executive Officer Wayne Cattach.
The two wildcards chosen were Team Perkins Racing’s Steven Richards and the second Team Dynamik licence, being bought by Longhurst, as it is a Level One Licence.
