BOLD NEW TEAM HITS THE TRACK
16/2/2005 19:06 (Press Release) -
The most anticipated new motor racing team in Australia was officially unveiled
today at the team's purpose-built race centre coming after a number of years of
planning by V8 Supercar star and team founder Jason Bright.
Britek Motorsport, the vision of Bright, is an all new motor racing super team backed by electrical giant Fujitsu General and Ford and is set to manage four cars and contest three categories in a bold debut season of competition.
Headed by long-time industry commercial identity Chris Jewell who occupies the role of General Manager, Britek Motorsport has been in development for almost two years and already employs over twenty people.
Leading the charge for Britek Motorsport and running in the colours of Fujitsu Racing will be a two-car assault of BA Falcons. Contesting the 2005 V8 Supercar Championship Series (SCS) will be rising star Steve Owen driving the lead BA Falcon whilst Jose Fernandez will drive the second BA Falcon in the 2005 V8 Development Series.
Also contesting the V8 SCS will be the talented Matthew White, the former-Development Series front-runner also stepping up to the premier category driving yet another BA Falcon in the colours of an as yet unnamed sponsor set to be revealed prior to the opening championship round at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500.
The team’s third category debut will see Adelaide based young gun Bryce Washington challenge for the 2005 Australian Carrera Cup driving a brand new Porsche GT3 backed by Adrad Radiators.
“Jason (Bright) and I had always shared a dream to run a team at the leading edge of V8 Supercar racing. The team that we’ve built with his vision is youthful but solid and I am delighted to be handed the reigns to manage what I feel sure will ultimately become a front-running combination.” said Chris Jewell.
“Since coming on board full time late last year we’ve worked with our key people to assemble the team of our choice. We have the best marketers, engineers and management to take the team forward and I think the pool of driving talent will be sure to surprise a few people in 2005.”
The investment into motor racing by leading electrical group Fujitsu General signifies the massive growth of the V8 Supercar category. Following trial motor sport programs during the last two years the company believe Britek Motorsport is the best place to invest their marketing funds.
Philip Perham, General Manager for Marketing and Sales with the Fujitsu General company say the group is extremely excited to be involved, not only with the creation of a new V8 Supercar team in Britek Motorsport, but also with the companies first foray into the main V8 Supercar Championship Series.
“Fujitsu General has slowly increased its involvement in V8 Supercar racing over the past two years and through today’s launch of Fujitsu Racing, hope that we can continue to capitalise on the popularity of the sport here in Australia.” he said.
“Our first objective with the sponsorship is to further increase our brand awareness for our air conditioning and plasma display products. Secondly, we want to enhance and strengthen our customer relationships with promotions and on track experiences based around our racing team”.
“V8 Supercar racing, via its truly national format and considerable television exposure, gives Fujitsu the opportunity to meet these objectives, with our ultimate aim to obviously increase sales of our products here in Australia.”
