AVESCO Congratulates BigPond Broadband on Major Industry Awards

Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company (AVESCO) Chairman Tony Cochrane has congratulated platform sponsor BigPond on its runaway success at the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association’s 11th annual national awards in Sydney.
Mr Cochrane said the BigPond V8 Supercars broadband website reflected the enormous success and rapid growth of the V8 Supercar Championship Series when it clinched the ‘Best of the Best’ awards and was also judged the ‘Best Entertainment’ and ‘Best Sport’ website in the country.
“We are extremely proud of our relationship with BigPond and the technology that has made the V8 Supercar website www.v8supercar.com.au and the broadband site www.supercar.bigpond.com the very best in the country,” Mr Cochrane said.
“These sites and our sport are capturing the hearts and minds of millions of people both in Australia and overseas. It’s interesting that V8 Supercars and BigPond are also equipped with the most sophisticated technology in the world that drives both to their outstanding success.”
V8 Supercar racing is the third most watched sport in Australia and draws around the same amount of spectators and television viewership as rugby league, rugby union and soccer.
An AC Nielsen report in 2004 has shown that the V8 Supercar Championship Series has grown massively since its inception in 1997. The report shows that 19 per cent of the general population have an interest in V8 Supercar racing while rugby league is only slightly ahead in general appeal at 23 per cent.
More than 1.6 million people attended V8 Supercar events in 2004 with more than 13 million watching on television. Around the world more than 600 million people in 70 different countries also tuned in to the sport.
