New faces add horsepower
27/1/2005 7:48 (Press Release) -
Team Dynamik has made three new appointments in a bid to achieve V8 Supercar success on and off the track. Former England Test cricketer Ian Greig, 49, has joined the Team as its Commercial Director, in a bid to enhance the Team’s off-track profile.
And ex-Dick Johnson Racing engine troubleshooter Peter Wallace has recruited powerplant guru Steve Dewhurst to the Team’s engine shop to consolidate and refine Dynamik’s quest for a podium position in 2005.
Team Dynamik Technical Director Oscar Fiorinotto said the new personnel would bring racing and commercial horsepower to the South Australian team.
Ian Greig has an extensive background in high-level sport and management. He played two Tests for England in 1982 (joining his brother Tony as a Test cricketer). Ian then translated that experience into developing a sports marketing career in the UK.
He moved to Brisbane in 1993, developing commercial sponsorship opportunities for national sporting teams.
In 1997 he moved over to the Gold Coast Motor Events Corporation. He was an important part of Indy’s commercial sponsorship and corporate development, and also worked on enhancing the sponsorship profile of the Queensland Rugby Union, until making the move to Team Dynamik this year.
“A wonderful opportunity presented itself with Team Dynamik,” he said. “I will be developing Team Dynamik’s commercial opportunities, putting it into a position to succeed off – and on – the track.”
In the Team’s Brisbane engine shop, two-man team Peter Wallace and Steve Dewhurst are also plotting a path to the podium.
Wallace, 44, was with DJR for the past two years, troubleshooting reliability and performance issues with the Ford powerplants. Stints with Steve Ellery Racing (2002) and Paul Weel Racing (2001) fill out an impressive Supercar pedigree.
Steve Dewhurst, 51, has rejoined the Supercar scene after nearly 10 years in the aviation industry. He was instrumental in developing the Mitre10 V8 for Larkham Motorsport in 1995, and spent six years in the UK on early versions of the Brian Hart/Cosworth F1 turbo in the early 1980s.
Wallace said they would be consolidating and refining the Team’s current engine package in early rounds before embarking on full scale changes.
“We will have a totally new engine package by Bathurst,” he said.
