Young star Davison gets early Christmas present

Rising V8 Supercar star and current Carrera Cup Champion Alex Davison today received an early Christmas present in the form of a brand new Holden V8 Supercar emblazoned with the colours of new sponsors Autobarn at a function under the Christmas Tree at Federation Square, Melbourne.
Autobarn Racing is an all-new V8 Supercar team of license owner Rod Nash with the race car being prepared under contract by Perkins Engineering as part of a multi-year agreement for the leading automotive products retail chain.
Operating from the purpose-built Perkins Engineering workshops in Moorabbin, Melbourne alongside the Castrol Perkins team, Autobarn Racing will give Davison the opportunity to showcase his driving talents that first came to the attention of racing legend Larry Perkins.
Two years ago Perkins and Nash earmarked Alex as a driver for the future and signed him to a long-term contract earlier this year in the firm belief he is a V8 Supercar champion in the making. He is fast, professional, fit, consistent and extremely motivated to win races.
“The program with Autobarn has been under development for some time and it’s great to be able to formally announce that we will be flying the Autobarn colours in V8 Supercar for many years,” said Nash.
“Working with Larry affords Autobarn Racing the highest in engineering talent, cars and equipment. This is a highly involved sport and to be at the front requires knowledge and the right people. The contract program with Perkins Engineering gives us everything we need to win races, now it’s down to Alex and my crew to perform on track.”
Autobarn Chief Executive Officer, Peter Fox, is looking forward to the company’s involvement in the toughest motorsport category in the country.

Having just stepped off a plane from attending the Porsche prize-giving ceremony in Germany, 25-year-old Davison is looking forward to mixing it in the V8 category.
“To race at the elite level in Australia has been a dream of mine for so many years. When I moved to Germany to race for Porsche a few years ago I maintained a focus on keeping up to date with V8 Supercar racing, the drivers and teams with a view to one day coming home and racing in the category.
“The opportunity arose with the offer of a contract earlier this year and I jumped at the chance to move into the top level of motor sport in this country. Rod knows the sport inside out and the assistance that Larry has given to me to date, and will in the future, is priceless.”
