Dunlop and V8 Stars to support Kids Race Day

11/1/2005 16:45 (Press Release) - Dunlop, along with two of its leading V8 Supercar stars in Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards, will be lending its support to this year's Kids Race Day due to be held at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway on December 19.

Kids Race Day supports charities such as Camp Quality, Down Syndrome Australia and Sailability, and provides sick and handicapped children with the opportunity to experience the thrills of motorsport in a safe and controlled environment.

"The idea behind Kids Race Day was to bring the racetrack to the children, because many of the children supported by these charities are unable to attend a normal race meeting environment," says event organiser Phil Jennings.

Apart from being pleased with Dunlop's involvement, Phil is also ecstatic that Dunlop has organised two of Australia's highest profile motorsport celebrities to attend the event.

"The involvement by Dunlop in helping to bring two V8 stars to the event will be a huge thrill for the kids, and most of their parents as well I'd imagine!"

On behalf of Dunlop, Craig and Steven will also be donating framed, individually signed Dunlop motorsport posters to help with fund-raising efforts for each charity.

"Kids Race Day is such a rewarding event to be involved in, and I look forward to meeting many of the kids who wouldn't normally get the opportunity to make it to one of our races," says V8 Supercar star Craig Lowndes.

Although representing the 'arch rival' Holden brand, Castrol Racing's Steven Richards is certainly in agreement with Craig's thoughts concerning Kids Race Day.

"All areas of the motoring community are coming together to provide a great day out for these kids, and at this time of year it is great to be able to put all our resources towards a good cause."

Over a thousand children and their families attended the 2003 Kids Race Day, and with Lowndes and Richards attending this year's event, organisers are anticipating even larger crowds for this year's event.

With a long and successful association within Australian motorsport, including proudly supplying the official tyre of the V8 Supercars, Dunlop is delighted to be involved with such a popular event.

"Dunlop is certainly looking forward to sharing in this unique motorsport experience with the children and families supported by these wonderful charities," says Dunlop Senior Brand Manager Paul Moncur.

Now in its ninth year, Kids Race Day was initially a concept put together by The Rotary Club of St George Central and is also a registered non-profit organisation.

The 2004 Kids Race Day is due to be held at Oran Park Raceway on Sunday December 19 2004, from 8.00am to 5.00pm, with Steven Richards and Craig Lowndes appearing at the event from 12.00pm to 2.00pm.
