V8 Supercar Judicial Procedure Review

The first meeting of the Judicial Procedure Review for V8 Supercars will take place at the CAMS National Office in Melbourne on Wednesday 15 December 2004.

The review panel will include:
- Lex Lasry QC, Chairman (CAMS Tribune)
- Ian Percy (CAMS Tribune)
- John Large (Vice President, FIA)
- Rob Nethercote (CAMS Chief Executive Officer)
- Tim Schenken (CAMS Director Racing Operations & V8 Supercar Race Director)
- Steven Chopping (CAMS Steward)
- Des Gleeson (Chief Steward, Racing Victoria)
- Peter Bready (CAMS Board, portfolio-Judicial)
- Doug Wright (Wrights Creative Communications)

Ros Ivanyi (Legal Counsel) and Ben Alexander (Executive Officer Motor Racing) will be assisting the panel.

The Terms of Reference for the V8 Supercar Judicial Procedure Review are as follows:
Judicial processes in place in other national sporting organisations


Hearing processes – how a matter is brought before the stewards


Appeal processes
a. Procedures leading to the appeal
b. ‘Appeal strictu sensu’ versus ‘hearing de novo’


Referral of matters not arising out of race meetings to court of first instance


Composition of court of appeal (eg. legal and sporting, qualifications/representation)


Legal representation


Appeal fees


Timing and duration of appeals


Making of public comments


Distribution of findings


Other matters as determined

The submission process began with a presentation from AVESCO and TEGA. Further submissions from interested parties are welcome. Submissions are required by close of business, Wednesday 22 December 2004 and should be addressed to Ben Alexander, Executive Officer Motor Racing via email, bena@cams.com.au.

Recommendations from the review will be made public before the end of February 2005.
