ORRCON RACING LENDS A CHARITABLE HAND

With the V8 Supercar Championship over for another year Orrcon Racing will be providing the moment of a lifetime for a handful of lucky people tomorrow.
Through the opportunity of providing a hot lap in an Orrcon Racing Falcon around Queensland Raceway the team has raised thousands of dollars for charity in 2004.
In conjunction with Larkham Motor Sport the team has always been keen to assist where it can to help fundraise for the various charities across the country.
This year the team has assisted the following charities with various fundraising events, CanTeen, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Diabetes Australia, Royal Brisbane Hospital Foundation and the Leukamia Foundation of South Australia.
Mark Malone couldn’t believe his luck when he was able to secure the ride of his life through a charity auction at the annual CanTeen golf day in July.
The Toowoomba resident will tomorrow be living out his dream of riding in a hot lap at over 200 kilometres per hour in a V8 Supercar.
“My uncle had been running the golf days for CanTeen for several years and this was the first one that I had been to, I will certainly be going back next year,” said Malone.
“I am a Ford fan and since July I have been following the team pretty closely, they have done a great job this year. Jason (Bargwanna) has had one of his best years and Mark (Winterbottom) had a good year for his first year in the series.
“Until yesterday I thought it was a slightly modified version of the race car that I would be going in but I now know it is the same car they raced during the year but with a passenger seat fitted. I’m really looking forward to it”
Working for a Burne Ford John Curry is a huge fan of the V8 Supercars and never misses a race, whether it is live at the circuit or watching on television Curry is always cheering for the blue oval.
After purchasing the ride at an auction held during Ford dinner at Jupiters Casino in July the Keperra resident will tomorrow have an adrenaline rush when Curry climbs aboard one of the Orrcon Racing V8 Supercars around Queensland Raceway. The money raised from the auction has been donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“I am really looking forward to it, the closest I’ve got to being in a V8 Supercar is in the Xr8’s we sell at Burne Ford,” said Curry.
David Wickes received a superb gift when his wife Maurine purchased the hot lap at the Royal Childrens Hospital Annual B105 Christmas appeal in late November.
“It came as a complete surprise Maurine knows that I am a huge V8 Supercar fan but she really surprised me with this one,” said Wickes who resides in the Brisbane suburb of The Gap.
“I can’t wait to get in the car at the moment I am like an excited little kid and what makes it even better is that the money raised is going to a great cause.”
Since beginning his V8 Supercar team ten years ago Mark Larkham has always been keen to support the community and he is delighted to again be able to contribute to the community in 2004.
“In our lives we sometimes don’t realize how lucky we are to be living our dreams by being involved in the V8 Supercar Championship,” said Larkham
“For the team to be able to provide people with a memories that will last a lifetime and in the process assist with fundraising for charity is our way of saying thank you for the effort that the various staff and volunteers who are continually put in caring for others.”
