Dexion Racing announces 2005 plans
11/1/2005 16:33 (Press Release) -
Dexion Racing will head to round one of the 2005 V8 Supercar Development Series with a BA Falcon, a renewed sponsorship deal plus a heap of confidence after a strong finish to 2004.
The team has purchased the ex-Anthony Tratt 2003 model BA Falcon. The car only competed in six rounds of the main V8 Supercar championship before Tratt switched to Holden-power in 2004.
Team owner and driver Tony Evangelou is excited at the prospect of taking the reigns of his new car.
“This is a big step for the Dexion Racing team,” Evangelou said.
“Last year, we worked away at learning the circuits and learning the characteristics of these cars. We believe we achieved as many goals as we could with the car we had. But now with this new car, it’s going to be a different story. I firmly believe we can be extremely competitive and push towards the front.”
While Evangelou, pictured right with Andrew Angus, would not be bold enough to predict next year’s results, he did hint that a top five finish in the series is not out of the question.
“If speed, reliability and a bit of luck are on our side, there’s no reason why we can’t finish in the top five or six,” he said.
“But I’d be disappointed if we are outside the top 10. We’ve had a full year now to adjust to this, so we are aiming high. It might be a little too bold to expect a race victory, but if cards fall into place, we might even be able to snatch a podium. Who knows ...”
Dexion, a racking and shelving company that specialise in industrial and office storage products, also recognised the potential the team display and has re-signed with Evangelou’s squad for another season.
Dexion marketing development manager Carmel Baker is excited about the opportunities 2005 will present.
“Dexion Racing compliments our business plan perfectly,” she said.
“The partnership promotes the introduction of our ‘one-stop-storage store’ concept that will roll-out next year.”
Team Manager David Moulden said that the team could not have wished for a better partner to go racing.
“The guys at Dexion are fantastic,” he said.
“I have never known a sponsor to be so enthusiastic and committed to our team and the sport. Dexion represents everything that sponsorship is about. We are proud to have them as our partner.”
Team Principal David Page will also continue to drive in the CSA Alloy Wheels Saloon Car Championship next year after a feet-finding year in 2004.
He will campaign the same Ford Falcon and is keen to take steps forward in the ‘other’ Ford vs. Holden category.
The first race of the 2005 V8 Development Series will be held at Adelaide’s street race, where the Development Series will support the wildly popular Clipsal 500 for V8 Supercars.
The V8 Development Series also heads to Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Queensland Raceway, Mallala, Bathurst and Phillip Island.
