ORRCON RACING ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS FOR 2004

11/1/2005 16:20 (Press Release) - At the start of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship the team at Larkham Motor Sport set themselves two goals for the year.

The first was to achieve a top ten result in an Orrcon Racing Falcon in the Championship and the second was to finish the Championship with as the second best Ford team.

Throughout the year the Gold Coast based team has been focusing on these goals and Jason Bargwanna ensured that both goals were achieved when he finished ninth in the final round of the Championship over the weekend.

Bargwanna’s result at Eastern Creek sealed his eighth position overall in the 2004 Championship, a result which is the best in the 10-year history of the team.

“At the start of the year we sat down as a team and set out to achieve our targets, which we have now achieved,” said team owner Mark Larkham.

“To me it is all about human achievement, 18 dedicated people who all year were working towards a common goal of ensuring we had a car inside the top ten and become the second Ford team in the Championship.

“Now we look forward to even bigger and better things in 2005. I think our greatest asset and strength will be the stability of our tight knit team as we continually strive for bigger and better results.”

Bargwanna was understandably upbeat about recording his best result in the Championship since he finished seventh in 2001.

“It is an absolutely fantastic result for the team,” said Bargwanna.

“What the team has achieved over the last 12 months has been outstanding, now we look to move forward and aim to be in the top five.

“This year has been the perfect platform to build on for our 2005 campaign, especially when many of the other teams along pit lane will be settling in with new drivers and combinations.”

Bargwanna’s Orrcon Racing teammate Mark Winterbottom finished the year as the leading rookie in the Championship despite enduring a “tough weekend at the office” in the final round.

Winterbottom was involved in a incident during today’s final race with Jason Bright beaching the number 20 Orrcon Racing Falcon in the turn two sandtrap.

After he was removed under safety car conditions Winterbottom returned to circuit to battle on and earn points towards his Championship standing.

“This weekend was certainly a tough one where I couldn’t take a trick,” said Winterbottom.

“It would have been good to finish a little higher in the points but it wasn’t to be, overall it has been a very substantial year of learning for me and I look forward to building on the experience I gained this year for a successful 2005.”

Marcos Ambrose won both of today’s races to cement his victory in the Championship. Second for the round was Paul Radisich followed by Russell Ingall. Ingall’s third position for the round earned him second in the Championship.

The 2005 V8 Supercar Championship kicks off in Adelaide on March 16-20.
