Crew's effort rewarded
11/1/2005 16:14 (Press Release) -
Team Dynamik’s race against time to prepare the Dodo Racing car #44 paid dividends as driver Simon Wills made up 16 places despite starting from pit lane in today’s final race in Round 13 of the V8 Supercar championship.
An oil leak as Wills was taking the VY Commodore out for race warm-up sparked hurried scenes in the Dynamik garage as the problem was located and a solution found.
Pit crew were still under the #44 car as the field raced off and Wills looked certain to go a lap down. But Wills managed to start out of pit lane, and a fortuitous safety car courtesy of a Mark Winterbottom crash, gave the #44 time to tack onto the end of the field.
From there it was up to Wills and he moved from 35th to 19th in a measured display, in a car performing the best it had all weekend.
The Dodo Racing car #44 breezed past Championship front runner Jason Bright toward race’s end, and was full of running despite the early dramas.
Dale Brede in the Dodo Racing #45 found some good mid-race pace and climbed several spots, before his brakes went off in the later stages of the race.
Marcos Ambrose iced his championship cake with another win in today’s final race, making a clean sweep of the weekend. Mark Skaife finished second in Race 3, with Russell Ingall hard on his hammer. Ingall gained enough Series points to finish second overall behind Ambrose in the championship.
Simon Wills finished 29th for the Round, while Dale Brede placed 32nd. Wills was 26th in Race 1, while a distributor problem forced him out of Race 2, and he placed 19th in Race 3. Brede ran 25th in Race 1, 30th in Race 2, and 30th in the final race.
Team Dynamik principal Kieran Wills said that 2004 had been a challenging second year for the Team.
“It certainly has been a tough year, and we’ve had to deal with issues that we didn’t expect.
“It shows how resilient we are as a Team, and I think that is one of the major factors about 2004. We will learn from all of this, and we expect to be able to bounce back and grow even stronger next year,” he said.
