FORD RACING GIVES BREAST CANCER RESEARCH $100,000 SURPRISE
3/12/2004 18:20 (Press Release) -
Ford Racing has surprised the National Breast Cancer Foundation with a
$100,000 donation on the eve of the final round of this year's V8 Supercar
Championship Series, the Big Pond Grand Finale at Sydney's Eastern Creek.
The donation came at the final Ford V8 Superbreakfast for 2004, where it
was announced that $40,000 had been raised through different pre-race events
throughout the year.
Delighted with the response from supporters of its racing program, the
Ford Motor Company topped-up those donations to make it $100,000.
The announcement was made by V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek
Racing) along with his Ford V8 colleagues.
“We are all fighting for race wins, and for myself a championship, but
this is something we're all proud to be fighting for,” said Ambrose.
“The association with the National Breast Cancer Foundation has been very
rewarding, not just in terms of raising money but also awareness.
“On behalf of the drivers I'd like to thank all those people who have supported
this fantastic fundraising and awareness effort in 2004. For 2005 I'm sure
this program will grow and together we can ultimately find a cure for breast
cancer.”
Sue Murray from the National Breast Cancer Foundation was delighted with
donation.
“This has taken us all at the National Breast Cancer Foundation by complete
surprise,” said Murray.
“It clearly shows a great commitment from all the Ford drivers, the fans
and the Ford Motor Company,” said Murray.
“2004 is the National Breast Cancer Foundation's 10th anniversary and we
are aiming to raise $10 million. We don't receive any government support,
but through outstanding programs like the Ford Racing association our goal
of reaching that figure continues to become a reality.
“I'm now a proud Ford Racing fan and I hope this fantastic week can be
completed with a win on the track and the championship to Marcos Ambrose.”
Ambrose will be chasing his second-straight title the Big Pond Grand Finale
at Eastern Creek over this weekend. Victory for Ambrose would also be Ford's
first back-to-back titles since Dick Johnson in 1988 and '89.
