Brad Fittler and Cosima to wow Bigpond Grand Finale at Eastern Creek
29/11/2004 19:21 (Press Release) -
AUSTRALIAN rugby league legend, Brad Fittler, has swapped his beloved Sydney Football Stadium for Eastern Creek Raceway as he takes on the coveted role of ‘Grand Marshal’ for the final round of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series, the BigPond Grand Finale next weekend (December 2-5).
The former Sydney Roosters and Australian captain is relishing the prospect of leading the V8 Supercar driver’s parade in a Ford Mustang plus participating in the official race start.
Fittler is a keen Ford supporter when it comes to V8 racing and will be keeping a close eye on Stone Brothers Racings spearhead and series leader Marcos Ambrose.
Fittler said he is looking forward to going behind the scenes for a unique pit lane perspective.
“I went up and watched Indy on the Gold Coast and that was really cool, you have to admire their courage,’’said Fittler.
“Although I have no desire to race, I get out and watch Jack (Elsegood) occasionally in the V8 Utes. Living and driving around in Sydney, is hectic enough for me, but I will be hoping that Ambrose wins, he’s the gun at the moment.’’
Since his retirement from rugby league, Fittler has been ‘cruising’ and recently spent five weeks with his family on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.
Prior to Fittler kicking-off the first race on Sunday, Australian Idol success story, Cosima De Vito, will sing the Australian anthem to an expected 45,000-strong crowd.
De Vito has released her new self-titled debut album, and will tour in January next year.
“I love singing the anthem, It’s very patriotic, and I have never been to a V8 Supercar race so I’m looking forward to that too,’’ said the Perth-based diva.
‘’My entire family are Ford mad, and I drive a Ford Festiva, so I will be going for the Fords on the day.’’
Cosima’s new single, Now That You Can’t Have Me, debuted at No.2 in the Australian charts, an achievement the singer has been working toward since she was nine-years-old.
“The title is very much about relationships, it’s a gutsy ballad that I did in the States with songwriter Diane Warren, who has worked with Celine (Dion) and Aerosmith,’’ she said.
“With the album, I wanted it to represent my journey, so what better way than to self title it.’’
