SBR APPLAUDS NETWORK TEN FOR LIVE RACE COVERAGE
29/11/2004 18:58 (Press Release) -
Stone Brothers Racing fans will have the opportunity to watch both Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall live on Network Ten from Eastern Creek on Saturday night, December 4.
Ambrose will have the opportunity to win back-to-back titles in the 26-lap race in his Pirtek Ford, while Ingall will be fighting for every one point he can muster as he tries to give SBR a 1-2 in the championship in his Caltex Falcon.
The twilight race will be the first of three races for the weekend and Ambrose needs to finish 12th or better to seal his second title in two years.
“It is a funny business,” said Ambrose.
“We were looking good to win the title in race three in Tasmania last weekend before our engine expired.
“Anything can happen, but it’s great the fans will be able to see the Saturday race live and hopefully watch me collect the championship.
“I think Network Ten need to be applauded for their decision to show the race in prime time on the Saturday night and I am sure motor racing fans around the country will back up their decision by tuning in.”
SBR co-owner Ross Stone was also delighted at Network Ten’s decision.
“You never count the points before the job is done in this business, but it’s great that fans will be able to watch Saturday night’s race live and maybe see Marcos collect another title if he is fortunate enough,” said Stone.
“If we do manage to win the championship on Saturday night it is important for Pirtek, Ford, Caltex, Bosch and all our other sponsors that the event is treated with such importance.
“I think David White and his team at Ten need to be congratulated on giving V8 Supercar racing the status it deserves.”
Network Ten will broadcast race one of the 2004 V8 Supercar Series at Eastern Creek from 6.00pm - 7.30pm on Saturday, December 4.
2004 has been a year of firsts for the championship with this being the first time in history that V8 Supercars will be shown prime time and follows on from Network Ten's historic Friday broadcast at this year's Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 at Bathurst.
"We have received strong support for prime time coverage of the race and in the spirit of further growing the sport we will be broadcasting from Eastern Creek immediately following Sports Tonight at 6pm,” said Network Ten's general manager, sport, David White.
