Team Dynamik rebounds into top ten

Team Dynamik fought back today to grab a Top Ten placing by the end of Round 12 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, held at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains raceway this weekend.
Simon Wills in the Dodo Racing car #44 retired in Race 1 yesterday but fought to 16th in Race 2, then to provisional ninth place in today’s final race. He finished 20th for the round.
Stewards were last night investigating claims that three drivers – David Besnard, Mark Skaife and Jason Bright - were deprived of higher placings through a timing error in the final race.
Ford’s Russell Ingall won the round, from Holden’s Greg Murphy and Steven Richards in another Holden. Pre-race favourite and series leader Marcos Ambrose retired with a blown engine in Race 3, leaving the Championship still open at the final round at Eastern Creek next month.
Astute strategy pushed the Dodo Racing Commodore up several places in the field in Race 2 earlier today, then Wills consolidated with a solid performance in the final race.
“It was disappointing to DNF in race 1 but we proved that we can come back from that setback with two pretty quick races,” he said. “It shows we have the potential for podium results, rather than just showing up.”
Wills copped his fair share of bumps and whacks in a day of vigorous racing on the tight 2.4km circuit, keeping the 40,000 strong crowd entertained.
Wills picked up a place straight off the start line but then was shunted into another car at the first hairpin corner, crumpling the VY Commodore’s bonnet.
“The bonnet was flapping around for a while, and the windscreen wiper was working by itself,” he said. But neither issue washed any speed off the Dodo Racing #44 and he fought his way to ninth.
He fought off a late challenge from Craig Lowndes, the pair touching wheels along the back straight but Wills protected his position in a high-speed moment.
Dale Brede, starting from 18th position in Race 3, traced Wills through the field until a pit stop on lap 7 cost him several places.
He was then collected from behind at the hairpin and punctured a left rear tyre, forcing him into the pits again. He finally finished 25th in a result that did not reflect his car speed and competitiveness.
Wills jumped a place in the Championship series, up to 26th with 893 points, depending on the results of the inquiry. Brede, who finished 28th in this weekend’s round, lies 32nd with 365 points.
