Round Summary:
A bizarre end to Race three saw claims of the cars of Skaife, Besnard and Bright performing an extra lap after a mix up with safety cars had relegated the then top three to the rear of the pack. An explanation from CAMS has been requested.
Ford’s Marcos Ambrose cleared out to win Race two convincingly from the Kelly Brothers while Mark Skaife confirmed his run of bad luck, collecting the out of control duo of Paul Weel and Max Wilson at the hair pin.
The car was quickly repaired for the third race and started from the rear of the grid. Todd leapt to the front when Ambrose suffered engine problems and was progressing nicely when his engine unexpectedly failed on lap nine.
After the safety car debacle Murphy inherited the lead when Rick Kelly ground to a halt, and hung in for a race win from Ingall and Richards. Skaife finished 21st after being relegated mid race.
Car #2 (#50)
RACE # 2
Position – DNF
RACE #3
Position – 21st
Mark Skaife:
“The Race three results overall were stuffed up big time. We reckon the three cars in question completed 42 laps instead of the rest of the field’s 41. It’s up to CAMS to sort it out.
Not a great weekend for our new car with teething problems kicking in and a collision ending Race two prematurely after I encountered Wilson and Weel in a mix up at the hairpin, damaging the front of Car #2.
Race three we should have finished 3rd by HRT calculations but this was not to be.
On a positive note the car showed plenty on a track that was not conducive to gauge improvement.
Our Qualifying and Shoot Out was good and Eastern Creek next month will be a better indication as to where we are against the competition. ”
Car #22 (#49)
RACE # 2
Position – 3rd
RACE #3
Position – DNF
Todd Kelly:
“In Race 2 we ran consistently up front but lost out to tyre wear when catching up to my brother Rick, in second place to Ambrose. That meant holding station in front of Ingall to be ready for the third and final race.
"I grabbed the lead early when Ambrose’s engine went off song and it wasn’t about winning but by how much!
"I ground to a halt after an unusual engine component failure and that was the day for me.
"None of this showed how much the car has improved of late. I thought we could have gone all day, but had to settle for 120 round points and 7th place in the Series going into Eastern Creek.”
